About This Role:

The Coordinator, Peer Mentoring is a full-time professional staff position responsible for the continued development, planning, implementation, and assessment of Peer Mentoring for the Lamar University Cardinal Communities program, which serves over 1,000 incoming LU freshmen each fall. This position reports to the Associate Director of STAR (Student Tutoring and Retention) Services and interacts extensively with academic and student service departments and faculty and staff across campus to provide comprehensive mentoring for Lamar University undergraduate students.

As a member of our team, you will have an impact on our clients through accomplishment of the following responsibilities:

PRIMARY DAILY RESPONSIBILITY:
  • Coordinate and supervise Peer Mentoring through the Lamar University Cardinal Communities (CC) program.



ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Coordinate and implement peer mentoring through the Cardinal Communities program
  • Hire, train, and supervise peer mentors and additional student staff using College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) guidelines and standards
  • Monitor progress of Cardinal Communities students and connect them campus resources
  • Assist Associate Director with marketing and promoting Cardinal Communities programs and events
  • Advance partnerships with departments and individuals across campus
  • Utilize EAB Navigate system for attendance, appointments, communication, and reporting
  • Assess, evaluate, and grow peer mentoring
  • Assist the Associate Director in budget resource allocation
  • Participate in professional development and student success research

To be successful in this role and a great addition to our team we need you to come with the following:

  • Bachelors degree from a regionally accredited college or university with one year of relevant experience and supervisory experience required.



KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of mentoring, learning communities, and first year experience in higher education
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise a team of students
  • Superior oral/written communication skills
  • Computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft applications and Canva
  • High level organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to participate in a highly collaborative work environment
  • Demonstrated ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to represent Lamar University with high levels of professionalism and customer service

  • Masters degree preferred
  • Experiences preferred include at least three years working with learning community and/or first-year experience programs, staff supervision, and knowledge of university educational system and student retention programming
