Job Summary/Basic Function:
Nature and Scope

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:
Assists the Vice President of Student Engagement in establishing best practices in administration, programming, and services with the expectation of having a positive impact on recruitment and increase in student retention.

Promptly and thoroughly communicate need-to-know issues with VPSE.

Respond to emergencies, crisis, and mental health issues with Lamar students, work closely with Student Health Center, Housing & Residence Life and University Police to address student issues and student conduct. Participate in a 24 hours on-call response.

Supervise the department of Setzer Student Center and Recreational Sports.

Serves as chief student conduct and hearing officer. Will manage student conduct due processes. Trains residence life hearing staff and hearing panels; adjudicates student code of conduct violations, follows up with all hearing and sanctioning processes. Is the administrator of the Maxient system.

Coordinate and facilitate the Campus Care Team and follows through with behavioral intervention where appropriate. Track those students in continued enrollment at the University.

Responds to student, parent, faculty, staff and other stakeholder concerns in a timely fashion. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Work closely with students and appropriate student engagement and academic affairs on student medical withdrawal process.

Engages in and actively participates in Greek Council, Greek student leadership training, Setzer Student Center and Recreational Sports student staff training and in-service training. Will advise one of the Coordinating Councils for Greeks. Work closely with on campus advisors of fraternities and sororities and with the national organizations.

Develop, implement, and evaluate student organization and fraternities/sororities policies and procedures, as they relate to service, education and safety/risk management operations, insuring student input at appropriate levels.

Participate in and provide guidance where appropriate in the analysis, review, creation, and interpretation of policies and procedures related to students

Engages in University activities focused on student recruitment to the University such as the Cardinal View recruitments, Involvement Fairs, summer Freshman and Transfer Orientation sessions.

Work in conjunction with Title IX Coordinator, to ensure strategies are implemented to educate students, paraprofessional and professional staff on sexual misconduct, bystander intervention, and sexual/domestic violence. Ensure all due process with sexual misconduct incidents are appropriately adjudicated.

Reviews and updates policies, procedures, Student Handbook and Code of Student Conduct as approved by Texas State University System (TSUS).

Assist with the evacuation process of residence students to an off-site location for tropical storm or hurricane.

Directs the divisional assessment efforts, analyzes data to develop comprehensive learning outcomes and institutional effectiveness. Assist in the development of goals, objectives, and timelines that match the institutional and divisional goals as outlined in the University's strategic plan.

This position is classified as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) under the Clery Act and a responsible employee under Title IX. Other duties may be assigned to this position on a regular or occasional basis to respond to needs of the university.


Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum Education Required:
Masters degree in College Student Personnel, Higher Education is required. Doctoral degree in Student Affairs and/or Higher Education preferred.

Minimum Experience Required:
Minimum of eight years progressively more responsible administrative experience as a fulltime student affairs professional with student conduct, Title IX, fraternities and sororities, student activities and student events, assembly and free speech, student organizations.

Possess the ability to work effectively and develop positive working relationships with diverse constituents, including staff, students, faculty, significant experience administering student conduct and disciplinary procedures; experience advising student organizations, excellent analytical and communication skills; and experience in program development and assessment.

In addition, applicants must have the ability to navigate circumstances that require effective negotiation, mediation, and conflict resolution skills. Knowledge of general business practices and fiscal management is helpful.

Able to work with students and student organizations in planning student events.

Able to navigate circumstances that require effective negotiation, mediation, and conflict resolution skills.

Assess and deliver care team approach to supporting and assisting students to remain in college.

Adept at being a leader and a hands-on contributor.

Experience in recruiting, hiring, training, and managing employees. Able to effectively manage public relations and media inquiries.

Prefer experience with Maxient and Banner.

Key Competencies:
An understanding and experience in working on retention initiatives across student engagement, academic and enrollment management.

Demonstrates a broad and clear understanding of student development and the role of a care team and behavioral intervention approach to addresses students needs and issues.

Knowledge of and experience as it relates to assessment of student engagement divisional/departmental programs and services.

Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to foster positive working relations and partnerships within the University.

Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Physical Requirements:
Moderate physical activity. Can require handling objects of average-weight up to 30 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (2) hours per day.

Willingness to work flexible schedule, which may include evening and weekend hours as required and emergency management and/or crisis management.

Willing to assist with the evacuation process of residence students to an off-site location for tropical storm or hurricane.
Must be able to remain in stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.
Must be able to have repetitive wrist/hand/finger movement to work on computer and/or related office equipment.
