About the Position:

The Undeclared and Academic Advising Center provides academic counseling to matriculated students with respect to the General Education Program and the policies/procedures associated with that program. The Academic Advising Center is the academic home department for undeclared students, providing services normally given through the student's declared major department. Additionally, the center provides programs and services to assist students in the selection of a major. We seek an exceptional individual to join our team as the Academic Advising Program Coordinator (Student Services Professional III). The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

Reporting to the Director of Academic Advising, Operations and Innovation, the Academic Advising Program Coordinator is responsible for the development and implementation of academic advising programming in Office of Academic Advising at Cal State Fullerton (CSUF). This position requires a deep commitment to student development, a strong understanding of academic policies and procedures, and the ability to collaborate effectively with the campus community. Provides specialized academic advising services, track the academic progress of assigned students and assesses retention and graduation rates of participants. Expected to develop plans and approaches to situations where few precedents or guidelines exist and adapt to rapidly changing situations.

Using a data-driven approach and in collaboration with members of the advising community, the Academic Advising Program Coordinator executes and evaluates student success programs for four-year graduation and academic notice. They assist in the creation of program objectives, timelines, and assessment. They monitor program progress and performance, track milestones, and ensure adherence to timelines. The Academic Advising Program Coordinator collaborates with team members and academic colleges/departments to ensure the successful execution of programs and the achievement of programmatic goals.

The Academic Advising Program Coordinator is responsible for providing one-on-one and group academic advising to their assigned student population utilizing an advanced, developmental, holistic, and problem-solving approach. They serve as a primary point of contact for program participants, engage in communication and outreach efforts, and maintain accurate records of student interactions using advising technology resources. Other duties as assigned.


Essential Qualifications:
Bachelors degree or the equivalent from an accredited four-year college or university in a related field including or supplemented by upper division or graduate course work in counseling techniques, interviewing, and conflict resolution plus three years of professional student services work in the field. A Masters degree from an accredited college or university in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work or a job-related field may be substituted for one year of professional experience. A Doctoral degree from an accredited college or university and the appropriate internship or clinical training in a relevant field may be substituted for three years of the required professional experience.

Ability to plan, develop, coordinate, supervise, and organize programs and activities. Ability to interact with a diverse student population, faculty, staff, and the public. Ability to analyze complex situations accurately and adopt effective courses of action. Ability to advise students individually and in groups on complex student-related matters. Ability to complete assignments without detailed instructions. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a variety of individuals. Possession of excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as the ability to acquire knowledge of campus procedures, activities, and the overall organization.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to complete the background check satisfactorily may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.


Preferred Qualifications:
At least one year of experiences in academic advising with college population is preferred.

Demonstrated ability or experiences to establish and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships with students and employees at all levels throughout the institution.

Experience with data analytics and technology tools as they relate to planning and data-driven program development and assessment.

Knowledge of the unique challenges and experiences faced by students experiencing academic difficulty.

Use initiative and resourcefulness in planning work assignments and in implementing long-range program improvements.
