SUMMARY

SUNY Brockport is accepting applications for an Instructor of Nursing Simulation/Laboratory position. This is a full-time, 12-month, tenure track position within the ExCEL Center in the School of Nursing. The primary responsibility of this role is teaching and providing clinical supervision in laboratory and simulation-based learning environments. This includes skills laboratory instruction and simulation experiences across undergraduate and graduate nursing programs. The position supports the ongoing development and expansion of simulation-based clinical education, contributing to the increasing integration of simulation as a component of required clinical learning experiences across programs. Additional responsibilities may include occasional classroom or online teaching, clinical supervision, participation in curriculum development and evaluation, committee service, and scholarly activities. This role functions within a highly collaborative simulation environment and requires active partnership with the Director of the ExCEL Center, Simulation Operations Specialist (SOS), and nursing faculty to ensure the effective delivery of high-quality educational experiences. This position will start July 1, 2027.

JOB FUNCTIONS

Essential Functions
Teaching (70%)

Teaches a 4-4-2 course load each academic year. For these purposes, a course refers to a 3-credit course or equivalent.
May teach face-to-face, hybrid, or online courses.
Instructs and coordinates laboratory sessions for undergraduate nursing students.
Provides supervision and guidance to students during practice and open lab sessions.
May supervise students in clinical settings.
Leads simulation-based learning experiences for undergraduate nursing students that augment clinical practice.
Collaborates with graduate faculty, the Simulation Operations Specialist, and the ExCEL Director in the planning, design, implementation, and evaluation of simulation and laboratory-based learning for graduate programs, including contributing to the use and training of standardized patients within simulation activities.
Participates in the development, implementation, and continuous evaluation of expanded simulation-based clinical education experiences, including high-impact and immersive learning environments supporting increased simulation utilization across programs.
Assists with planning, implementation, and evaluation of laboratory and simulation learning activities for undergraduate nursing students.
Provides remediation and support for undergraduate students requiring additional development of clinical skills.
Collaborates with faculty to integrate simulation into clinical and classroom curricula.
Conducts evaluation and debriefing of laboratory and simulation experiences in alignment with current best practices and professional standards (e.g., INACSL Standards of Practice, ASPE Standards of Best Practice) to support student learning outcomes.
Collaborates with the ExCEL Director and Simulation Operations Specialist to support operational and logistical needs of simulation and laboratory activities, contributing to a team-based approach to program delivery.

Scholarship (5-10%)

Engages in scholarly activities to produce scholarly publications, presentations, and related scholarly work.
Demonstrates a commitment to ongoing professional development and staying current in the field.

Service (20-25%)

Actively participates in department level meetings and serves on at least one additional department committee per academic year. Faculty at this level are also expected to serve on college level committees.
Provides service to the department, University, community, and profession.
Attends University events.

REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Qualifications:

Master's degree in nursing by time of appointment from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or an internationally recognized college or university
Bachelor's degree in nursing from an accredited institution
Unencumbered New York State RN license and current registration
Clinical nursing experience
Demonstrated teaching ability using current educational methodologies
Effective interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to work collaboratively in a team-based environment
Demonstrated ability to contribute to scholarly activity
Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with high-fidelity simulators, scenario facilitation, and laboratory or simulation-based instruction
Experience in curriculum development and integration of simulation into clinical or classroom learning
Ability to facilitate collaborative and team-based learning environments
Familiarity with simulation best practices and professional standards (e.g., INACSL Standards of Practice, ASPE Standards of Best Practice)
Certification in healthcare simulation (e.g., CHSE, CHSOS) or willingness to obtain within a defined timeframe
Demonstrated ability to apply effective teaching strategies to support adult learners

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Work Schedule:
Variable: Generally Monday-Friday with occasional Saturdays. Labs may start as early as 7 am and may include evening hours.
