SUMMARY

SUNY Brockport is accepting applications for a Director of Marketing. Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Communications, the Director of Marketing serves as the strategic leader responsible for elevating and expanding the University's brand presence. This role develops marketing initiatives that support institutional goals, with a particular focus on student recruitment and engagement. The Director of Marketing leads a team of four professional staff members and ensures that the marketing and communication needs of the University are met with creativity, consistency, and effectiveness. The ideal candidate is a collaborative, data-informed leader with a deep understanding of higher education marketing, brand development, and digital engagement.

JOB FUNCTIONS

Essential Functions:
Recruitment Marketing

  • Provides strategic leadership for undergraduate recruitment marketing in close collaboration with the Division of Enrollment Management and Office of Undergraduate Admissions.
  • Designs and implements targeted, data-informed campaigns that support recruitment goals across all stages of the enrollment funnel.
  • Partners with the University's content team to develop compelling, on-brand creative assets for marketing campaigns.
  • Supervises the Associate Director of Marketing, who leads parallel recruitment marketing initiatives for graduate programs.
Brand Strategy & Creative Direction
  • Promotes the University's brand identity by developing and executing marketing strategies that consistently communicate SUNY Brockport's values, strengths, and differentiators across all platforms and audiences.
  • Leads a team of graphic designers in producing a wide range of marketing and communication materials, including posters, flyers, postcards, table tents, brochures, event invitations, and other collateral that support institutional priorities.
  • Prioritizes creative work that aligns with the University's strategic objectives, ensuring high-impact visual communication that advances key initiatives.
  • Ensures all creative output adheres to SUNY Brockport's brand guidelines, maintaining consistency and professionalism across platforms.
  • Oversees the evolution of brand standards to reflect current marketing best practices, expanding creative elements within the guidelines as needed to support innovation and engagement.
Non-Essential Functions:
Professional Development
  • Stays informed on emerging marketing trends, technologies, and best practices to ensure SUNY Brockport remains competitive and innovative in its outreach efforts.
  • Participates in professional organizations, conferences, webinars, and training opportunities relevant to higher education marketing and communications.
  • Encourages a culture of continuous learning and professional growth within the marketing team, supporting staff development through mentorship and access to industry resources.
  • Evaluates and integrates new tools, platforms, and strategies that enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of the University's marketing initiatives.


REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications or a related field from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or an internationally recognized college or university
  • At least five years of professional experience in marketing/communications
  • Demonstrated experience developing and executing integrated marketing campaigns
  • Strong understanding of brand strategy, visual identity, and creative direction
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in marketing, communications, business administration, or a related discipline from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or an internationally recognized college or university
  • Higher education experience
  • Supervisory experience
  • Knowledge of current trends in higher education marketing, including SEO, social media strategy, and content marketing
  • Experience working with creative teams and overseeing the development of marketing collateral


ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Work Schedule:

37.5 hours/week: Monday-Friday, 8 am-4 pm.
