SUMMARY
SUNY Brockport is accepting applications for a Head Athletic Trainer. Reporting to the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Performance, this position serves as Head Athletic Trainer directly supervising the athletic trainers, athletic training aides/interns, and student assistants.. They manage the complete administration of all operations and staff of the medical care services for all of SUNY Brockport intercollegiate student-athletes. This is a full time, benefits-eligible, 11-month position, with the month of June off.
JOB FUNCTIONS
Essential Functions:
Athletic Training & Medical Services
- Directs all aspects of athletic training and medical care services for all intercollegiate athletic teams including practice and game coverage, risk management and prevention of injuries, assessment and evaluation of injuries, acute care, and rehabilitation of injuries.
- Coordinates with URMC to work with team physician.
- Provides medical care for all visiting athletic teams who do not travel with a certified athletic trainer.
- Works closely with area orthopedic physicians in developing well-rounded high quality treatment plans for student-athletes.
- Schedules recommended orthopedics appointments for student-athletes.
- Maintains accurate medical documentation.
- Monitors and administers secondary insurance procedures and documentation.
- Maintains appropriate athletic training supply inventory and operating budget.
- Schedules ambulance coverage for athletic events.
- Evaluates and implements blood-borne pathogen exposure plans and effective emergency plans for all practice and competition venues on campus.
- Adheres to NCAA Arrington Concussion settlement guidelines.
- Abides by the NATA Professional Code of Ethics.
- Arranges for certification of head coaches in CPR, AED, and First Aid.
- Conducts golf cart driving training as needed for athletics staff personnel.
- Oversees athletic trainers including scheduling, team assignments, practice assignments, and game coverage assignments.
- Hires, trains, evaluates, and supervises athletic trainers, athletic training interns, and student work-study assistant athletic trainers.
REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or an internationally recognized college or university
- Minimum of two years of athletic training experience
- Must be NATA/BOC (National Athletic Training Association/Board of Certification) certified
- Must be eligible for New York State licensure
- Must have current CPR/AED/First Aid Certification within 60 days of hire
- Must have valid and unrestricted NYS driver's license
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and travel
- Ability to work effectively with a diverse population (students, staff, faculty, and coaches)
- Master's degree in Athletic Training or a related field from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or an internationally recognized college or university
- Experience in working at the collegiate level
- Previous experience in supervising athletic training students and Interns
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Work Schedule:
37.5 hours/week: Monday - Friday, 10 am-6pm, evenings, weekends, and some holidays may be required as needed.
