SUMMARY

SUNY Brockport Athletics invites applications for the position of Assistant Football Coach - Special Teams Coordinator. Reporting to the Head Football Coach, the Assistant Football Coach - Special Teams Coordinator serves as a leader, mentor and role model for athletes. This position assists the Head Football Coach in all aspects of a competitive and inclusive NCAA Division III Football program with an emphasis on supporting and retaining football student-athletes.

JOB FUNCTIONS

Essential Functions:
Special Teams Coordinating and Defensive Backs Coaching
  • Assists the head coach with the preparation of development, implementation, and evaluation of game plans and strategies and team scheduling.
  • Creates and implements comprehensive practice plans aligned with team objectives and competitive goals.
  • Leads on-field instruction for practices and contests.
  • Ensures compliance with all necessary policies and procedures.
Recruiting and Team Development
  • Recruits skilled and academically qualified student-athletes and monitors academic progress.
  • Conducts ongoing player evaluations to assess individual performance, skill progression, strengths, and areas for improvement.
  • Provides an excellent, transformative student-athlete experience, demonstrates positive progress in competitive standing in the EMPIRE 8 Conference.
  • Participates in on-campus prospect and team camps, as well as off-campus summer camps, as required.
Team Travel
  • Represents the sports program to various institutional entities.
  • Supervises all student-athletes while away on intercollegiate athletic trips.
  • Supervises assistant coaching staff, volunteers, and practicum students.
Administrative Processes/Procedures
  • Participates in budget management and oversight related to the football program.
  • Engages in fundraising to supplement budgets and expenses.
  • Attends all required staff meetings.


REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree by time of appointment from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or an internationally recognized college or university
  • Minimum of three years of college coaching experience
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Current certification in CPR and First Aid, with completion of AED training required within three months of hire
  • Must have valid and unrestricted NYS driver's license
  • Complete Van Safety Certification within three months after hire
  • Must be willing to work weekends, holidays, early morning and/or late evening hours as required
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or an internationally recognized college or university
  • Five years of college coaching experience


ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Work Schedule:

37.5 hours/week: Monday-Friday, 9am - 5pm; evenings, weekends, and some holidays may be required as needed.
