SUMMARY
The Department of Education, Languages, and Instructional Design at SUNY Brockport is accepting applications for a full-time, 10-month Assistant Professor of Literacy-Early Childhood/Childhood Education to begin August 2026. The Assistant Professor of Literacy-Early Childhood/Childhood Education is responsible for teaching courses in the Department of Education, Languages, and Instructional Design, and for engaging in regular scholarship and service (including advisement and accreditation activities) at the department, school, and university levels.
JOB FUNCTIONS
Teaching (50%)
- Expected 3-3 course load
- Engages in experiential and hands-on education
- Manages student advisement
- Engages in scholarly activity to produce scholarly publications and related scholarly work
- Publish peer reviewed articles in peer-reviewed national or international journals, conducts professional presentations at regional and national conferences, and engages in other scholarly activities
- Engages in enrollment and retention initiatives
- Attends University events
- Provides service to the department, University, community, and profession
REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Qualifications:
- A doctoral degree in literacy or a closely related field from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or an internationally recognized college or university. ABD candidates will be considered, but a degree must be conferred within six months of hire
- Three or more years of demonstrated successful literacy teaching experience in early childhood settings or elementary schools
- Evidence of the ability to work collaboratively with others, with an appreciation for cultural and group differences
- Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills
- Experience as a Literacy Specialist or Literacy Coach
- College teaching and advising experience
- Teaching certification in Early Childhood (B-2), Childhood (1-6), or other closely related area
- Additional study in inclusive education, anti-racist pedagogy, critical or liberatory theory, or other related fields
- Evidence of collaboration with minoritized communities (for example, people who identify as LGBTQ+, people of color, multilingual, and economically minoritized)
