SUMMARY


SUNY Brockport invites applications for two tenure track positions, one at the Assistant Professor level and one at the Assistant or Associate Professor level, in the Department Counselor Education to begin August 2026. The positions have responsibility for teaching 3-3 load per semester in the Masters in Mental Health Counseling, School Counseling, College Student Affairs and Development programs, and in Certificate of Advanced Studies programs, as well as scholarly activity and service to the department, campus, and profession.

JOB FUNCTIONS

Essential Functions:
Teaching (50%)

  • Teaches a 3-3 course load in two or more of the 8 CACREP Core area and in clinical supervision
  • Provides experiential education
  • Infuses diversity issues in teaching and practice
  • Provides student advisement to about 40 students per academic year
  • Supervises clinical experiences, including reviewing and providing feedback on clinical performance to students
  • Responds to student inquiries and provides office hours
Scholarly Activity (30%)
  • Engages in scholarly activity to produce scholarly publications and related scholarly work
  • Publishes peer reviewed articles in peer-reviewed national or international counseling journals
  • Conducts professional presentations at regional and national counseling conferences
  • Engages in other scholarly activities, such as authoring counseling books or book chapters
Service (20%)
  • Engages in admissions, enrollment and retention initiatives
  • Attends University and Department events and meetings (e.g., graduation, convocations)
  • Provides service to the department, university, community, and profession, including work related to maintaining CACREP accreditation
Candidate for Associate would assume leadership roles in department, university, community, and profession over time.

REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Qualifications:

Assistant Professor:

  • PhD or EdD degree in Counselor Education from a college or university accredited by a U.S. Department of Education recognized accrediting organization (ABD with completion within six months of hire date will be considered)
  • Experience teaching graduate-level professional counseling courses
  • Experience providing counseling supervision
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity through teaching, scholarship, and/or service
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students, public, college community and external constituencies, with an appreciation for cultural and group differences
Associate Professor:
  • PhD or EdD degree in Counselor Education from a college or university accredited by a U.S. Department of Education recognized accrediting organization
  • Established record of effective teaching and supervision in lecture and online formats in graduate-level counseling education program
  • Established record of maintaining an active research agenda, including publications in peer-reviewed counseling journals and presentations at national/international counseling conferences
  • Established record of providing service to the department and university, and profession, including holding leadership positions
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity through teaching, scholarship, and/or service
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students, public, college community and external constituencies, with an appreciation for cultural and group differences

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Graduated from a CACREP-accredited doctoral program
  • Experience in teaching two or more of the 8 CACREP Core areas
  • Valid professional counseling license or certification
  • Experience as a professional mental health or school counselor
  • Experience supervising students in practicums or internships
  • Published in peer-reviewed counseling journals or presented at counseling
