SUMMARY

Drake Memorial Library at SUNY Brockport is seeking an enthusiastic, curious, and collaborative Research and Instruction Librarian. This librarian will support the success of SUNY Brockport graduate and undergraduate students by serving as a liaison to several academic departments, including those based at the Brockport, NY campus and the Brockport Downtown campus in the city of Rochester, NY (for example, Public Administration, Social Work, and Counselor Education).

The Research and Instruction Librarian develops relationships with faculty, staff, and students in liaison departments to meet their library-related needs. They build and manage the Drake Memorial Library collection in their liaison areas, including electronic and print resources. They support the scholarly communication efforts of students, faculty, and staff. They teach information literacy sessions in synchronous classes (both online and in person), asynchronous classes, and one-on-one consultations. The successful candidate will develop and maintain educational materials, such as tutorials or research guides, in accordance with accessibility and digital pedagogy best practices, and continuously build knowledge and expertise in these areas as they evolve and change. They participate in reference services at the reference desk and via chat.

The Librarian travels to meet with students and faculty at our Brockport Downtown location as needed, to teach information literacy classes and library-related events. The position requires strong outreach skills to develop relationships with faculty, staff, and students working remotely.

The Librarian will serve on library and university committees and participate on project teams as needed.

Reliable transportation between Brockport and Rochester (~ 20 miles) is required. Some evenings and weekends required on rotation. This is an on-campus position, subject to the policies of SUNY, SUNY Brockport, and the Academic Affairs division, currently 5 days a week on campus during the semester.

This is a 12-month faculty position, eligible for promotion and tenure in accordance with policies and procedures of SUNY, SUNY Brockport, and Drake Memorial Library.

JOB FUNCTIONS


  • Serves as a liaison to assigned departments, including departments based at Brockport Downtown in Rochester, NY. Support collection development, scholarly communication, and teaching and learning in assigned areas
  • Participates in library reference desk services and cooperative reference chat services
  • Contributes to the profession through library teams, campus committees, professional organizations, and research and scholarship


REQUIREMENTS

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in information and/or library science (MLS, MLIS, MSIS, etc.) from an ALA-accredited institution or an ALA-approved foreign equivalent
  • Knowledge of pedagogy and the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively to achieve team goals (group projects, committees, etc.)
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering and promoting the values of equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging
Preferred Qualifications:
Evidence of strong outreach and relationship-building skills
  • Teaching experience at any level, especially experience teaching information literacy
  • Experience creating educational materials (such as research guides, tutorials, etc.)
  • Knowledge of web accessibility and digital pedagogy best practices
  • Evidence of continuous professional development and growth in the profession


ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Work Schedule:

37.5 hours/week: Monday-Friday, 8 am-4 pm, some evenings and weekends required on rotation
