SUMMARY
The Department of Healthcare Studies (HCS) at SUNY Brockport is accepting applications for a tenure track Instructor with primary responsibility in the Addictions & Behavioral Health (ABH) program. The major responsibilities of this role will include, but are not limited to, teaching courses, advising students, and engaging in scholarship activities in addictions and behavioral health or a related field. This faculty member will review and plan course content as well as preparing all lesson plans. They will also evaluate student performance and engage in academic advisement and counseling. The person in this role will engage in departmental, School, and University service activities as well as engage in a program of scholarship to support tenure.
JOB FUNCTIONS
Essential Functions:
Teaching (50%)
- Teaches a 4-4 course load each academic year
- Reviews and plans course content as well as preparing all lesson plans
- Evaluates student performance and provide feedback to enhance skill development
- Engages in academic advisement to facilitate student success
- Holds regular office hours
- Engages in enrollment and retention initiatives
- Attends University events
- Provides service to the department, university, community, and profession
- Participates in departmental and program planning meetings
- Attends on-campus and off-campus Open House programs and recruitment events
- Assists with program accreditation processes
- Engages in scholarly activities to produce scholarly publications, presentations, and related scholarly work
REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master's degree or higher in a field related to addictions & behavioral health by time of appointment from a college or university accredited by the U.S Department of Education or an internationally recognized college or university
- Demonstrated experience in training/teaching and classroom management
- Ability to conduct research activities, with a program/plan of scholarship focused on addiction and behavioral health or a related field
- Demonstrated potential for increasing the diversity of the curriculum, student body or faculty through teaching/mentoring and/or scholarship activities
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience teaching undergraduate and graduate-level courses related to addiction, behavioral health, or a related topic
- Online and classroom teaching experience
- Experience in administration/committee management
- Experience in academic advisement
- Evidence of scholarly activity (e.g. peer-reviewed research, presentations)
