SUMMARY
The Facility Operations Assistant 2 position is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Facilities moving crew. This position ensures timely and safe execution of moving jobs and the setting up for events, maintains high standards of customer service, and supervises the effective use of State vehicles and equipment.
JOB FUNCTIONS
Essential Functions
- Supervises Facility Operations Assistants 1, Motor Vehicle Operators and Student employees, providing work assignments based on priorities set by management, ensuring schedules, standards and guidelines are met providing feedback for performance evaluations.
- Maintains written records of work performed and labor and materials used; reports orally to the supervisor on the progress of projects under way.
- Operates self-propelled and motorized equipment, such as trucks, light construction equipment, electric pallet jacks, forklifts, and snow removal equipment.
- Sets up chairs, podiums and related equipment for conferences, seminars and special events, and loads, unloads and assembles furniture and equipment as assigned.
- Sets up and removes furniture, partitions, and equipment for office moves, conferences, meetings, special events and residential halls.
- Loads and unloads heavy equipment, supplies, and furniture by physically lifting items or operating a hand truck, forklift or pallet jack.
- Moves items to and from storerooms and/or warehouses; maintains storage areas; tracks and records movement within a facility.
- Moves heavy furniture, office equipment, and records.
- Performs weekly vehicle checks to assure vehicles' readiness. Checking and adding fluids, checking tire pressure and cleanliness.
- May assist in building maintenance when needed, tasks such as but not limited to unclogging toilets and sinks and changing light bulbs and tubes.
- May travel to other offices within the State or facility to pick-up or move equipment, supplies or persons.
- Maintains moving flatbed carts and bins.
Operating Needs
- Works both scheduled and unscheduled overtime as needed. Contact numbers must be available.
- Climbs, stoops, and does moderate to heavy lifting.
- Must be able to obtain Operations and Maintenance certification for asbestos removal.
- Possess a valid New York State Driver License, Class D or above (other than a motorcycle license); this is verified through the NY State Department of Motor Vehicles. Must pass LENS check. This enables employees to pick up and deliver tools & equipment used in normal maintenance activities.
REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Qualifications:
Non-competitive: one year of service as a Facility Operations Assistant 1 or Motor Vehicle Operator; OR, two years of full-time, verifiable experience in custodial, grounds, or maintenance operation or assisting in a journey-level trade. When required to operate motor vehicles, incumbents must possess a valid New York State driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle being operated.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Work Schedule:
40 hours/week: Monday - Friday 7:00am-3:30pm.
