SUMMARY

Perform routine maintenance and repair work at REOC and surrounding grounds using the appropriate tools and equipment. Perform other maintenance tasks such as collecting and disposing of trash, mowing lawns, and snow removal by shovel or powered snow removal equipment. The Facility Operations Assistant 1 will perform a variety of routine unskilled and semiskilled manual tasks related to the operation and maintenance of the Rochester Educational Opportunity Center (REOC) building, surrounding grounds, and the vehicles and equipment used in maintaining the site.

JOB FUNCTIONS


  1. Set up chairs, podiums and related equipment for conferences, seminars and special events; and loads, unloads and assembles furniture and equipment as assigned. (25%)
  2. Perform routine and unskilled work such as carrying supplies and equipment, erecting ladders and scaffolding, cleaning, flushing and repairing drains, painting, loading and unloading trucks, performing rough carpentry and masonry work, and cleaning the work site after repair work is completed. (5%)
  3. Clean REOC facility, to include but is not limited to: vacuuming, mopping, and waxing floors; empty trash receptables; washing restrooms and fixtures within, dusting and polishing wood and metal fixtures. (45%)
  4. Perform a variety of routine building maintenance tasks such as unclogging toilets and sinks and changing light bulbs and tubes. (3%)
  5. May travel to other offices within the State or facility to pick-up or move equipment, supplies or persons. (3%)
  6. Move heavy supplies, furniture, and equipment. (4%)
  7. Performs general grounds maintenance tasks such as clearing site, raking or tilling soil, mowing lawns, cutting brush and wood, trimming and removing trees and shrubs, maintain REOC parking lots and sidewalks, remove snow, trash and other obstructions from the property. (15%)


REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Qualifications:

Labor Class: There are no education or experience qualifications for this class. Applicants must be physically able to perform the tasks of the position and be able to understand and carry out written or oral instructions. When required to operate motor vehicles, incumbents must possess a valid New York State driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle being operated and able to pass LENS Check.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • HVAC Experience
  • HVAC Training
  • Basic electrical, plumbing and mechanical knowledge
  • Good communication skills
  • Good customer service skills
  • Excellent time and attendance record
  • Must be physically able to perform all the duties of this position as outlined.
  • When required to operate motor vehicles, incumbents must possess a valid New York State driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle being operated.

Work Schedule:

40 hours/week: Monday - Friday 1:30pm- 10pm
