Applications are currently being accepted for Senior Student Services Assistant in the Student Health Services Department, located at San Diego Mesa College. Hours are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, 8:00-5:00; Wednesday 9:30-6:00; Friday 8:00-3:00, however, hours and days may vary. Selected candidate must be willing to adjust work days/hours based on the department's needs.

Desired Qualifications The Senior Student Services Assistant is expected to meet the qualifications presented on the Senior Student Services Assistant classification description and displayed as "Desired Qualifications" and "Training and Experience," as well as the Licensure' upon completing the first six (6) months of employment in a Senior Student Services Assistant assignment.

Knowledge:
- Technical aspects of a medical/nursing health office.
- Proficient working knowledge of WORD, PowerPoint, SARS, Excel.
- Knowledge of HIPPA and FERPA with respect to medical records.
- Knowledge applicable sections of California Education Code and other laws.
- Knowledge of electronic health records (i.e. Medicat).
- Act as the lead provider and patient scheduler with the current SARS Anywhere computerized scheduling process.
- English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary.
- Modern office practices, procedures, and equipment, including computer hardware and software.
- Oral and written communications skills.
- Record-keeping techniques.
- Rules, regulations, policies, and procedures of assigned program.
- Student/management information systems.
- Technical aspects of field of specialty.
Skills and Abilities:
- Resolve complex problems and provide lead technical assistance to students including: referrals, health related paperwork, consent for procedures, records requests and other written forms.
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
- Establish and meet schedules and time lines.
- Interact effectively with students and staff.
- Interpret and explain rules, regulations, policies, and procedures regarding assigned student services area.
- Maintain confidential records and files and prepare reports.
- Make arithmetic calculations with speed and accuracy.
- Meet schedules and timelines.
- Operate a variety of office machines and equipment.
- Perform technical duties of complex difficulty in assigned student services area.
- Plan and organize work.
- Relate effectively with people from varied cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
- Train and provide work direction to others.
- Understand and follow oral and written directions.
- Use computer applications, including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
- Work independently with little direction.
- Obtain recent health records and laboratory/X-ray report records in advance of patient appointment.
Training and Experience:
- 1 year experience educating, training and leading reception personnel in a medical office.
- 1 year full time experience with paper chart maintenance or electronic medical records.
- 1 year experience with front office triage of patients.
- 2 years full time working in the front office in a medical/nursing office.
- Registered Nurse license, Licensed Vocational Nurse.
- Associate degree in Health Information Technology desired.
- 1 year of experience at the level of Student Services Assistant in a medical/nursing office (or equivalent).
