Regional Affairs Program Manager

Job Summary

The Regional Affairs Program Manager for the Southern Utah Regional Medical Campus (SURMC) is responsible for managing and coordinating program logistics for student learning and community engagement, and assisting in the development of community relationships. The Regional Affairs Program Manager will refine and expand rural programs, in alignment with Spencer Fox Eccles School of Medicine (SFESOM) Salt Lake campus mission and standards, and identify opportunities for program improvement to ensure that they meet the needs of students, staff, and faculty in the region. The incumbent will be instrumental in building and maintaining relationships with constituencies both internal and external to the SFESOM. This position will report to the Associate Director of Regional Administration.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborates with faculty, staff, and community partners to develop and manage programs that provide students with hands-on experience in rural and underserved healthcare settings.
  • Partners with Associate Director of Regional Administration to cultivate relationships with internal and external constituents, including donors, preceptors, health systems, higher education institutions, and interdisciplinary programs.
  • Coordinates program logistics, including scheduling, site selection, and student placements; maintains program records and documentation, ensuring compliance with accreditation standards.
  • Monitors, assesses, and prepares reports on the impact of programs on students' learning and community engagement; gathers student and faculty feedback to evaluate experiences and identify opportunities for program enhancement and innovation.
  • Collaborates with the Faculty Development team to implement preceptor development programs, ensuring that clinical educators are supported and well-prepared to train and mentor SURMC students.
  • Assists in the implementation of affiliation agreements with partnering healthcare institutions and both in-patient and out-patient clinical environments.
  • Works with academic and clinical teams to refine and expand Longitudinal Integrated Clerkships (LICs) as a core component of the mission-driven MD Program experience.
  • Stays updated on trends and best practices in medical education and community-based learning; proposes and implements changes to align the program with evolving needs and strategies.
  • Serves as a liaison to Salt Lake campus teams, such as marketing and communications, regional affairs, and admissions, to ensure effective outreach and communications in the region.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a related area plus three years of experience in budget, grant and program management or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) required. Develops and implements program ideas into successful academic and research programs; demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills also required.

Preferences
  • An advanced degree (e.g., master's or higher) in a related field, such as education, healthcare administration, or public health.
  • Experience in program management, preferably in healthcare or education.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with diverse constituents, including faculty, students, staff, community partners, and healthcare professionals.
  • Knowledge of medical education and experience with rural healthcare settings.
  • Experience managing and successfully implementing programs, especially in healthcare or education. Several years of relevant experience is highly desired.
  • Highly effective communication, organizational, and interpersonal relationship skills to prioritize deadlines and lead staff.
  • Prior experience in a supervisory or managerial role.
  • Demonstrate a strong passion and commitment to improving healthcare access in rural and underserved communities.
  • Background and/or understanding of rural/underserved social determinants of health, medical education, and/or academia.
  • Ability to work well and effectively with others, specifically those in the health sciences, academia, and rural/underserved communities.
  • Strong ability to adapt to day-to-day program needs, budgetary advances, and external stakeholders' needs.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative to achieve outcomes is essential.

Work Schedule Summary: Monday - Friday, business hours. This position is expected to work remotely initially and will transition to a hybrid role, requiring regular onsite presence. The Southern Utah Regional Campus will be located in a transitional space located at 225 S. University Avenue in St. George, Utah.
