Position Information

Hiring Department: Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships

Posting End Date: Open until filled. This posting may close once a sufficient number of qualified applications have been received.

Hours: 40 hours per week, standard Monday- Friday 8:00am- 5:00pm, flexibility is required on evenings and weekends.

FLSA status: Exempt

Earliest Start Date: As soon as possible.

Salary: $60,000.00 Annually.

This position is security-sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code 51.215, which authorizes the employer to obtain criminal history record information. A valid driver's license issued by the State where the applicant resides and insurability as defined in UTS 157 may be required to perform the position's essential functions.



Purpose of Position

Under guidance of the Director of Systems and Operations, this position designs, develops, and maintains computer programs and web applications that automate specific business processes and facilitate the successful operation of the department. Functional knowledge of financial aid programs is desirable. Experience with SQL is required, with preference for procedural SQL (Oracle). This position is responsible for the continuous operation of all software systems employed by the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships and ensures compliance with all federal, state, and institutional policies.

Essential Functions

Consults with stakeholders to analyze and understand functions to be automated, needs, objectives, desired features, and input and output requirements.

Documents hardware and software requirements and produces estimates of feasibility, cost, time to implementation, and compatibility with other systems.

Develops and maintains plans outlining steps and timetables for developing, testing, and installing applications.

Researches and evaluates software and hardware alternatives to meet the department's needs.

Converts designs and specifications into computer code, designs and codes screen layouts, graphical user interfaces, printed outputs, and interfaces with other systems; troubleshoots and corrects errors, and confirms that programs meet specifications.

Writes and maintains documentation to describe program development, logic, coding, testing, changes, and corrections; is capable of reviewing preexisting documentation and understand currently existing automations, to support and expand the department's capabilities.

Monitors performance of automation and programming after implementation to identify areas of opportunity for improvement and increased efficiency.

Understands department's role in accomplishing the University's mission.

Compiles and submits reports as required by management, state, local, and federal regulatory agencies.

Acts as liaison between the department and internal or external customers, including software vendors and UTEP Division of Information Resources.

Participates in various committees, professional trainings, industry conferences, and conventions.

Complies with all state and University policies.

Other duties may be assigned.



Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Required Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's degree within area of assigned responsibility.

and

Experience: Three years of related experience and/or training to the essential duties and responsibilities; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with SQL.

Preferred Qualifications: Functional knowledge of financial aid programs is desirable, as well as experience in the use of UC4/Automic Job Scheduler, Ellucian Banner, and transactional SQL (Oracle).
