Director of Student Success and Graduate Opportunities

The College of Engineering & Science and the ReBUILDetroit Program is seeking a Director of Student Success and Graduate Opportunities to assist students in the ReBUILDetroit program to successfully navigate their undergraduate career and be competitive applicants to graduate research programs and post-graduate research opportunities. The Director of Student Success and Graduate Opportunities leads with the ReBUILDetroit Student Success team and works alongside faculty and staff to provide support, resources, intrusive mentoring, programming and events that support students' career and academic development. This position directly works with the ReBIULDetroit Student Training Core Director and Detroit Mercy Pre-health coordinator to accomplish the goals of the ReBUILDetroit program. The Director will assist in identifying and communicating opportunities for mentored research and collecting and monitoring data on program outcomes.

The ReBUILDetroit Program, (Building Infrastructure Leading to Diversity), a National Institutes of Health (NIH) funded initiative since 2014, is an intense academic and research-based program that prepares students from historically underrepresented or financially disadvantaged backgrounds for research careers in the biomedical sciences (see ReBUILDetroit.org). University of Detroit Mercy is the lead institution in a consortium with research partner Wayne State University and pipeline partner Henry Ford College.

This a grant-funded position through June 2024. We hope to sustain the position beyond grant funding.

The successful candidate will be a self-directed, creative, effective, and enthusiastic cheerleader, mentor, and communicator, with a demonstrated commitment to supporting a diverse population of undergraduate students. A graduate degree and experience with university-level student success support is strongly preferred. A background in or experience with biomedical related graduate work is helpful. The candidate should have leadership and collaboration skills, as well as interest in working directly with students, sometimes after hours. We are particularly interested in candidates who will contribute to our efforts to identify institutional barriers and opportunities for historically underrepresented students in pursuing careers in health-related research.

The commitment to helping students to fully realize their passions and talents to make a difference in their community and beyond, the collegial team approach to supporting students, and the diverse, engaged student body make working at Detroit Mercy exciting and rewarding. The College's faculty and staff form a vibrant community of student-centered professionals with a strong focus on professional and academic mentorship of students.
