Job Summary:
The College of Engineering is seeking a Director of Student Engagement. This is a full-time (1.00 FTE), 12-month, professional faculty position.
The Director of Student Engagement is a key member of the College of Engineering community. This position is part of COE's "Talent Team", aligned under the supervision of the Executive Director of Strategic Partnerships and will be the liaison with the College's units, academic faculty, and undergraduate committees and programs that seek to increase student participation in experiential learning, professional development and co-curricular engagement.
The Director is responsible for developing and implementing a strategic effort that reframes the undergraduate co-curricular experience with goals of creating, advancing, and implementing the College's efforts to engage students, raise awareness and increase access to, and increase participation in co-curricular activities.
In this role, the Director will lead college leadership, college units, and stakeholders in the development of a marketing and communications plan, collaborating with industry relations, advising student clubs, and engaging alumni, and donors. The Director will also co-advise the Engineering Student Council and serve as the focal for over 60 sponsored student organizations, review and approve club budgets, and ensure that the needs of the clubs, college, and students are met.
This position is expected to broaden the College's capacity to advance student success across individual identities, and support continuous improvement of the identified programmatic areas of responsibility in the College. The Director will oversee, manage, and participate in almost all programming associated with the role.
The position requires active collaboration with a wide range of constituents and stakeholders including academic advisors, students, college leadership OSU Foundation, as well as relevant organizations external to OSU.

Key Responsibilities
30% Lead Engagement EffortsLead and develop a strategy to structure co-curricular activities in a manner that students, alumni, and donors can navigate and participate. This will include:
- Assessing current co-curricular activities and making data-informed decisions about students interests
- Reshaping the platform over which co-curricular activities are offered ensuring ease of navigation, access, and participation.
- Developing and implementing a strategic effort that creates a "student first" view of co-curricular activities.
- Leading the development of and executing on a clear vision for students that is actively championed and supported by the College of Engineering.
- Leading efforts to track data relevant to student engagement in co-curricular activities.
- Creating promotional materials in cooperation with the Colleges Marketing and Communications team for programs, events, and coordinating efforts and strategies on college communications with students, alumni and friends and other stakeholders.
- Overseeing, Establishing and maintaining collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders including donors, alumni, student organizations, faculty, college leadership and university partners.
- Providing student engagement expertise to the leadership team.
20% Manage Professional Development and Engagement Programs
- Stabilizing and renewing outcomes associated with what is currently referred to as the Leadership Academy by ensuring such programs are inclusive, enabling students to participate throughout the year.
- Increase program participation amongst key stakeholders including students, alumni, friends, and college leadership.
- Lead vision, strategy, planning, and execution for program activities that includes annual flagship conferences and weekly workshop events as well as field trips to industry facilities.
- Hire and oversee contract event management
20% Engineering Student Council and CoE Student Organizations
- Serve as CoE focal for all issues related to the operation of over 60 CoE-sponsored student organizations in alignment with university policy and procedures, liaising with OSU General Counsel, the OSU Foundation, OSE Procurement and Contract Services, OSU Risk Management, College and Memorial Union business offices/accounting.
- Collaborate with OSU Foundation on fundraising efforts for the Engineering Student Council-executive student body structure that supports the success of student organizations and enhances training/communication with student ORGs in the CoE.
- Manage student organization resource allocation on behalf of CoE; inform CoE school heads or designees on optimal processes and funding levels. Forecast and manage funds associated with CoE support of sponsored student organizations and the Engineering Student Council (estimated $180K).
- Co-advise the Engineering Student Council.
10% Collaboration on Student Engagement Initiatives
- Collaborate with other members of the COE "Talent Team" to support student engagement programming, events, and activities.
10% Service and Professional Development
- Participate on CoE and OSU task forces and committees; collaborate with school, college, and campus student services personnel to develop programs and events beneficial to all students success.
- Participate in ongoing professional development on campus, locally, and nationally to ensure professional growth, ongoing learning, and application of best practices.
10% Supervision
- Hire and oversee student engagement coordinator and event planner
- Supervise student workers. Manage all hiring, onboarding, training, coaching, supervision, appreciation, and recognition for the positions.
What You Will Need
- Bachelors degree in a field related to position responsibilities.
- At least five years of relevant experience in higher education, student services or related field, and at least three years of demonstrated program and project management experience.
- Experience planning, implementing, and assessing programming at educational institutions and/or other events to improve student success.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to create strong professional relationships.
- Ability to develop new insights into situations and/or programs; question conventional approaches; encourage new ideas and innovations and implement program changes.
- Experience managing multiple concurrent short-and long-term projects.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication abilities.
- Demonstrated organizational abilities in event and program coordination involving many individuals in different contexts (students, faculty, industry, etc.)
- Proficiency in email, word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software such as Microsoft Office or Google Apps.
- A demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity.

What We Would Like You to Have
- Masters degree in student affairs, higher education administration, or a similar degree program or commensurate professional experience.
- Experience with data analytics, developing and administering evaluation tools such as surveys, and with assessment/basic statistical analysis
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a broad range of internal and external constituents.
- Training/education or professional experience in a STEM area; OR experience developing or recruiting STEM talent in a business environment or higher education institution.
- Experience working with students who are traditionally underrepresented in higher education.
- Budget management experience.
- Supervisory experience.
Working Conditions / Work Schedule
Participation in programming will require working evenings and weekends as needed. This position is expected to maintain a physical presence on-campus within appropriate policies at OSU.
