Suffolk University is delighted to announce a career opportunity in Student Affairs! We are seeking an experienced student affairs professional to serve in a new role as the Director of Community Standards. The ideal candidate will have a balanced approach to student behavioral issues that are focused on a developmental and educational framework.

The Director will serve as the chief conduct administrator regarding student behavioral matters, provides direct service to students, and consults with faculty, administrators, and parents to respond to student issues and leads/assists with projects as assigned. The Director will work collaboratively with other members of the Division of Student Affairs to create a safe and welcoming environment for all and contributes to the goals and vision of the Division of Student Affairs.

Community Standards and Student Conduct System

Coordinates the Student Conduct System. Develops and implements policies related to student conduct expectations. Works closely with Residence Life and Housing Services regarding residence hall violations and SUPD regarding off-campus violations. Supervises and trains hearing officers. Prepares conduct statistics and reports. Consults with legal counsel. Assists SUPD in identifying Clery reportable incidents. Develops and presents educational workshops at orientation and other programs on student conduct. Assists the Associate Dean of Students in policy and protocol development.


Direct Service

Provides direct service to students and their parents, faculty, and administrators who seek assistance from the Student Affairs Office. Serves as a member of the Student Affairs 24-hour on-call team. Provides crisis management support.


Committee Work

Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with various university divisions including academic units and constituents to design, implement and assess initiatives. Serves on divisional and institutional committees and task forces.


Title IX

Collaborates with the Title IX officer and supervisor to address sexual misconduct, relationship violence and stalking education, prevention and response. Serves as a Title IX investigator.



Coordinates assessment activities for the Student Affairs Division.


Performs other related duties as assigned.


Masters degree in higher education administration, counseling or related area.

Three (3) to five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in student affairs in a college or university setting.

Demonstrated experience with student conduct.

Demonstrated experience in problem-solving, decision making, conflict resolution, negotiation, counseling, referral techniques, and confidentiality.

Demonstrated experience and proficiency in the use of technology to include PC use, desktop publishing, Microsoft Office Suite, social media, student records system, and internet use.

Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse student population and with parents, faculty, and other administrators.

Demonstrated ability to provide case management, including direct contact with students, family members, and on and off-campus providers.

Ability to communicate, engage, and develop rapport with individuals of diverse cultural, social, and religious backgrounds, and varied age, gender, sexual orientation, gender expression, and military status.

Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills as demonstrated by a pronounced sensitivity to the needs of a diverse student body; demonstrated experience working with diverse student, faculty, staff and community populations and proven ability to create an inclusive and welcoming campus environment.

Demonstrated ability to research, write analytical reports, and make presentations on issues related to students and student behavior.

Familiarity with Maxient electronic case management software and tracking systems, preferred.

Ability to speak formally and informally and make prepared and extemporaneous presentations to individuals and groups in order to provide information, explain procedures, investigate facts, and persuade others.

Knowledge of student security and privacy requirements including Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and Title IX. Experience and familiarity with case management database/software is preferred.

Ability to work evenings and weekends online, scheduled or on-call
