Coordinator of Embedded Tutoring (Math)
Description of Department: The mission of the Office of Learning Services is to provide supplemental tutoring in a comfortable and caring environment. We work to promote intellectual integrity, honesty, independence, and confidence by helping students to develop academic skills and methods. It is our hope that students will use these skills as they advance through their academic, professional and personal endeavors.

The goal of the Office of Learning Services is to work with students, faculty, staff and administrators to understand, develop and improve academic support to supplement class learning while promoting student independence, active learning and motivation.

The Office of Learning Services at the State University of New York at Oswego invites applications to fill a full time Coordinator of Embedded Tutoring (Math).

Compensation: SL-3 level, commensurate with experience plus full New York State benefits package.

Description of Responsibilities:
  • Specific Office of Learning Services (OLS) Responsibilities
  • Recruit, interview, select and supervise embedded peer tutors in selected math courses.
  • Oversee the training and math competency of the embedded tutors.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of beginning of semester OLS tutor training.
  • Plan and implement tutoring in service and training opportunities for embedded math tutors
  • Oversee assessment of the math embedded tutoring activities.
  • Assist in the daily operation of OLS (TracCloud, front desk, etc.)
  • Coordinate the Drop-in Tutoring component for math embedded tutoring area
  • Utilize student data tracking systems such as TracCloud, MyOswego, and BANNER.
  • Assist in the maintenance of College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) certification and relevant records
  • Assist OLS director with record keeping, assessment, and other administrative aspects of math embedded tutoring program.
  • Perform informal observation of all embedded tutors
  • Collect, assess and report data for Title III grant related to embedded tutoring
  • Participate in OLS classroom presentations and admission events as requested and/or assigned.
  • Participate in campus committees
  • Grant writing and budget review

Collaboration: OLS, Department of Mathematics, Educational Opportunity Program (EOP)
  • Communicate with faculty in mathematics department to align embedding tutoring services with current instructional approaches and technologies used in the Math discipline.
  • Assist the Department of Mathematics in maintaining data and developing analytics on Math retention and persistence for students using the services of the embedded tutoring Program.
  • Coordinate embedded tutoring program for EOP Summer Program math component and teach one math section of EOP Summer Program or equivalent duties as assigned, if needed.
  • Serve as committee as assigned by the OLS Director

Instructional Responsibilities:
  • Assist with the maintenance, facilitation and teaching of GST 308 (Peer Tutor Training) and coordinate instruction with STEM, Content, and Writing areas to ensure that College Reading Learning Association CRLA guidelines are met.
  • Teach GST 308: Peer Tutoring Training course on a rotational basis determined by OLS Director.

Job Requirements:
Required Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in STEM, STEM education or closely related field at time of application
  • Minimum two years' experience working in higher education
  • Knowledge of developmental education philosophy, best practices and academic policies of higher education
  • Experience teaching and/or tutoring at the college level
  • Demonstrated knowledge of best practices in tutor training, testing, and assessment
  • Effective analytical, writing, and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Math or Math Education
  • Program development, implementation, assessment and evaluation experience
  • Professional experience with EOP, HEOP, TRIO or related opportunity access programs
  • Grant writing and development
  • Experience in training and supervising student staff
  • Experience in working with and advocating for culturally diverse student populations
  • One year experience working in a college tutoring center
  • Demonstrated success with student retention and persistence initiatives
  • Knowledge of emerging trends and needs in the college student population
