 Academic Advisor and Testing Proctor

North Central State College is accepting applications for a full-time Academic Advisor & Testing Proctor.

Essential duties/responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

Advising/Coaching
Utilize proactive advising and case management techniques to empower students to develop and accomplish their personal, academic, and career goals; Utilize strengths-based/appreciative advising and coaching strategies to build relationships with students assigned to caseload

Maintain contact throughout the term (through a minimum number of advising contacts with each advisee as established by the College) to discuss goals and steps to attainment, study techniques, financial aid process, campus resources, life management skills, etc.

Provide direct services to all new, incoming, pre-program (where applicable) and/or program students related to academic planning, registration, and orientation; Collaborate with other student service offices to ensure a successful onboarding process of new students

Create two term academic plans (at a minimum) in partnership with students during initial advising meetings utilizing College-approved curriculum guides, assessment results and academic planning and registration tool

Input data and maintain accurate records; document services provided and interactions with students (e.g. phone calls, ZOOM, emails, letters, text messages, direct contacts) using student information system and advising software

Manage early alert interventions for respective caseload; meet with students, advise and provide support, make referrals (as necessary), conduct follow-up and close the reporting loop

Participate in College Student Inventory (CSI) advising

Provide personal, comprehensive, and intentional advising to "at-risk" students, academic probation students, and other specific student populations
(Tuition Freedom Scholars, Choose Ohio First scholarship recipients)

Refer and direct students to appropriate resources in the College and community; help in accessing services; and support students in developing
solutions to overcoming barriers to persistence

Gain expertise in the curriculum, requirements and specialized advising of students within a specific academic division (as designated by the
College); Work in collaboration with Academic Liaisons/Program Advisors

Maintain confidentiality of student records and adhere to the College's interpretation of FERPA rules for the release of student information

Perform other duties as assigned


Testing/Assessment

Oversee all student testing and assessment services including: scheduling appointments, loading of software and testing units, administration (and training of those who administer), and record results including, but not limited to: Accuplacer, ATI TEAS, Dosage Calculation, Computer Literacy, Make-up Exams, Non-NC State proctoring

Collaborate with College Credit Plus staff and high school counselors regarding Accuplacer testing

Support effective placement strategies through advising students on the benefits of effective preparation to achieve optimal course placement and
advising students of Assessment Waiver (multiple measure) options

Monitor and communicate all assessment testing unit purchase needs and report budget requests to Director

Troubleshoot testing technical/computer or assessment software problems; consulting with technical support and IT as necessary

Utilize AdvisorTrac software to maintain testing schedule

Make-Up Exams/ NC State Proctoring

o Communicate campus make-up-test availability to all faculty: Offer weekly make-up testing dates and receive test materials from faculty
o Proctor and return proctored exams to faculty; recording test notes in advising software (Aviso Engage) Non-NC State Proctoring
o Communicate proctoring policies and process, take testing inquiries and gather contact information
o Administer and monitor testing process Performs other duties as assigned


Registration/Retention Management
Achieve individual advisee caseload retention goals as established by the College

Prioritize advising intensity needed and contact with advisees assigned to caseload based on results of predictive analytics

Advise and monitor student progress and completion of key milestones for purposes of retention, persistence and success

Conduct individual caseload outreach and interventions including: registration tracking with follow-ups and targeted communication (phone calls,
text messages, email) campaigns regarding registration

Performs other duties as assigned


Department Support

Foster communication and facilitate the timely exchange of information between the department and a specified academic division

Gather data; analyze and review for trends in order to make recommendations for better workflow utilizing technology when appropriate

Oversee the maintenance of the SSTS's website

Attend department, academic division, and College-wide meetings as needed; Participate in professional development opportunities

Make presentations to various groups, as needed

Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's degree in education or program area of assigned academic division, student development, student services or higher education leadership. A master's degree in education or program area of assigned academic division, student development, student services, or higher education leadership preferred.
Experience: A minimum of two (2) years' experience or training in a program area of specified academic division, career counseling or academic advising preferred.
