SUMMARY
The AACSB-accredited School of Business & Management at SUNY Brockport is accepting applications for an Assistant Director, School of Business Center for Student Success (CSS). The School of Business Center for Student Success is designed to support the school's mission of attracting, supporting, and retaining high-caliber students, engaged alumni, and top-level employers. The CSS is structured to provide a customer service-oriented, holistic level of support throughout the student lifecycle. Reporting to the Director of Center for Student Success, this role will be expected to provide exceptional service to students, and collaborate with constituents within the school, across the university, and with our external stakeholders. The Assistant Director provides internal leadership and drives continuous improvement of the systems and processes that support student success, including advising strategies, retention initiatives, and data-informed decision-making.
JOB FUNCTIONS
Essential Functions:
Student Success Strategy & Leadership
- Serves as senior advisor in the School of Business and leads the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of advising systems, policies, and practices. Manages a year-round advising load of business and finance Online Degree Completion (ODC) students.
- Develops and leads comprehensive student retention strategies, including early alert systems, targeted interventions, and proactive outreach.
- Oversees Degree Works and Banner functions related to advising, including exception management, and system accuracy.
- Reviews and assesses waitlists for all business courses on a regular basis for overall demand and individual student need.
- Shares in transfer and freshmen first semester advising, schedule building and onboarding.
- Designs and delivers faculty training on business curriculums, advising practices, systems, and student success strategies.
- Oversees tracking, analysis, and reporting of student persistence data in alignment with accreditation standards.
- Disseminates reports to leadership to inform decision-making on student success, retention, and advising effectiveness.
- Uses data to drive continuous improvement of student success initiatives.
- Leads transfer initiatives, including our Online Degree Completion programs, intake, credit evaluation, and pathway development.
- Analyzes transfer data and demand to inform scheduling, program development, and enrollment strategies.
- Collaborates with department chairs and the Associate Dean in the School of Business on course scheduling, basing recommendations on student demand and progression patterns.
- Serves as a resource for faculty advisors, providing guidance and support as needed.
- Leads the development and execution of a comprehensive student communication strategy through Slate and related platforms.
- Ensures communications are aligned with retention, advising, and engagement priorities.
- Coordinates across CSS, Academic Departments, Admissions, ASC, and the Career Design Center to align student success efforts.
- Serves as a central point of integration for advising, admissions, and student support processes.
- Provides leadership and guidance in resolving complex student cases and navigating cross-functional challenges.
REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master's degree by time of appointment from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or an internationally recognized college or university
- At least two years of experience in academic advising, counseling, or student services within a higher education setting
- Experience analyzing data and familiarity working with student information and student success software products
- Demonstrated dedication to supporting a diverse student population and promoting equity within an educational setting
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Work Schedule:
37.5 hours/week: Monday-Friday, 8:30am - 4:30pm
