SUMMARY


Reporting to the Mail Operations Supervisor, the Facility Operations Assistant 1 is responsible for accepting, verifying, and delivering packages for the campus community. They load and unload anything from small parcels to large equipment, supplies, or furniture. They also operate electric pallet jacks, forklifts, and operate motor driven vehicles to transport items across campus to individual departments. They will also ship parcels according to selected shipper's guidelines.

JOB FUNCTIONS

Essential Functions:

  • Verifies each delivery for number of packages received and reports any damage or deficiencies on the bill of lading prior to accepting delivery. Is required to verify the number of packages received from UPS each day. In their absence employees are required to perform the same criteria
  • Opens each non-Biology/Chemistry/Physics delivery to count and verify contents with packing slip
  • Records each delivery on a receiving report on one day of receipt. Notes all damage or deficiencies on the receiving report
  • Accurately delivers all express packages the same day the express carrier has delivered to The College at Brockport. If delivery is not possible, employee, or designee, may call the department and inform them the package has arrived and is available for pickup
  • Obtains signatures from receiving departments on all packages and download into the SxBx system daily for easy tracking
  • Delivers all non-express, non-problem packages within 2 days of receipt at SUNY Brockport to their final location
  • Inspects, counts and verifies packing slip for Facilities and Planning material
  • Verifies packing slips with merchandise received. This includes visually inspecting and counting each item
  • Coordinates return of damaged or incorrect merchandise with internal central stores employees
  • Ensures receiving vehicle is in working order daily and all levels are within the manufacturer's guidelines weekly. Reports truck deficiencies to the motor pool for repair
  • Ships parcels according to selected shipper's guidelines


REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Qualifications:
Labor Class: There are no education or experience qualifications for this class. Applicants must be physically able to perform the tasks of the position and be able to understand and carry out written or oral instructions. When required to operate motor vehicles, incumbents must possess a valid New York State driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle being operated.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience working in all weather conditions
  • Experience working with computers for monitoring email and reporting

Work Schedule:

40 hours/week: Monday - Friday 7:00am-3:30pm.
