SUMMARY
SUNY Brockport is accepting applications for a Coordinator of Transfer and Veteran Programs. Reporting to the Director of New Student and Transition Programs, this role implements and coordinates transfer and veteran student initiatives. The Coordinator will focus on designing and implanting programs focused on building community, academic support and student success for Transfer and Veteran or military affiliated students. Along with the coordination and support related programming and communications, the Coordinator will collaborate with representatives from Transfer Credit Services, Undergraduate Admissions, Academic Departments, and the ASC, and serve as a liaison among these offices.
JOB FUNCTIONS
Essential Functions:
- Provides quality academic advisement and persistence strategies for students. (40%)
- Develops knowledge of academic advisement and registration related policies and procedures.
- Advises students in the Academic Recovery Program (ARP).
- Supports early warning initiatives.
- Coordinates Transfer Registration Process.
- Expands prior learning credit opportunities, maximize the number of credits that are accepted and applied towards student degrees and ensure seamless transfer.
- Provides campus wide leadership through advising and registration process for transfer students.
- Develops and supports training initiatives in advising and registration of transfer students.
- Oversees a comprehensive transition program for transfer students including Veteran students to increase student enrollment and persistence to graduation. (50%)
- Enhances transfer student-focused orientation and advisement to improve transition and enhance students' sense of belonging.
- Develops, facilitates, hires, and trains instructors for Transfer Academic Planning Seminars.
- Coordinates Peer Mentoring Program for incoming transfer students.
- Maintains/updates TYE communication and marketing materials.
- Coordinates proper assessment and work to implement changes for future programming.
- Coordinates Veteran Student Support Services.
- Develops and facilitates support/transition programming for Veteran student population.
- Chairs the Military Support and Engagement Team.
- Recruits, trains, and meets with committee members regularly.
- Identifies committee run supports/programming.
- Ensures Veteran students are aware of local resources and maximize their use of benefits.
- Collaborates with Undergraduate Admissions and Transfer Credit Services. (10%)
- Supports recruitment initiatives through Undergraduate Admissions and local feeder institutions.
- Provides numerous opportunities for outreach to feeder institutions.
- Creates and facilitates annual Transfer Professional Workshop.
- Triages and facilitates numerous articulation opportunities via the Transfer Articulation Process.
- Provides quality customer service to all campus constituents as well as community partners.
REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or an internationally recognized college or university
- Experience planning and implementing retention and/or mentoring programmatic experiences
- Experience working with students
- Demonstrated experience working with diverse populations and/or students while maintaining collaborative relationships with faculty, staff, students, and alumni
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills
- Master's degree from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or an internationally recognized college or university
- Experience working with students at the post-secondary level in an advisement, counseling, or student success role or related fields
- Experience planning diverse populations including but not limited to veterans and transfer students
- Experience leading educational and developmental training sessions with excellent presentation skills
- Experience establishing and maintaining student support programs
- Experience with appropriate computer programs and technology including Brightspace, Degree Works, Banner, Slate and familiarity with social media
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Work Schedule:
40 hours/week: Monday - Friday 8 am - 5 pm, varying with some nights and weekends
