Shoreline's Financial Aid Office is looking to welcome a Program Specialist 2 whose knowledge, experience, and/or transferable skills are in alignment with the position needs and the College's mission. The Enrollment Services & Financial Aid Office (ESFA) provide timely, accurate, and friendly service to all students, visitors, and members of the campus community. We work to ensure that all students have the opportunity to achieve their educational goals regardless of financial circumstances. Under the general supervision of a Program Specialist 3, the Program Specialist 2 (PS2) is responsible for administering specialized financial aid programs in compliance with federal, state, and institutional policies. This position completes financial aid file review and aid determination for one or more federal/state/institutional financial aid programs including the state/federal work study program and multiple associated emergency assistance programs. In addition to aid eligibility determination, this position will be responsible for communication, data collection, coordination, and implementation of programs. The PS2 also serves as a liaison to assigned program participants which may include staff, students, employers, supervisors, and the public.

Essential Job Duties:
  • Independently and accurately review student financial aid applications to determine aid eligibility.
  • Interpret, apply and stay current with financial aid regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Use Federal and State financial aid systems and web sites such as National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS), Common Origination & Disbursement web site (COD), Financial Aid Administrator's Access to Central Processing System (FAA Access to CPS online) and Washington Student Achievement Council (WSAC) portal to perform daily tasks.
  • Manage the work study program; monitor and reconcile expenditures, submit State monthly expenditure reports, approve off-campus employer contracts, and manage the work study webpage.
  • Manage work-study participants through orientations, ongoing communication, and other outreach activities.
  • Coordinate with Program Specialist 3 to implement awarding policies, review emergency assistance applications for eligibility and manage communication with applicants.
  • Counsel students regarding financial aid and the application process including other sources of funding such as Workforce Education and scholarships.
  • Provide effective customer service to current/potential students, the campus community, and the public with the goal of eliminating educational barriers to students.
  • Other duties as assigned of a similar level/nature


Qualifications

REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor's degree; OR Equivalent Education/Experience

KNOWLEDGE OF:
  • MS Office Access, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams, and Word; communication platforms such as Zoom
  • Financial aid systems such as People Soft, or ctcLink for Washington Colleges or similar
  • Family Educational Records Privacy Act (FERPA)
  • Financial aid best practices in a higher education environment

Conditions of Employment

PHYSICAL WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The College is currently providing services in a mixed modality of operations (both online and in-person services are offered). This position will perform work in a standard office setting, use standard office equipment and physically attend meetings both on and off campus, ability to communicate in person or through appropriate means. Please note, there may be limited opportunities for online work depending on program or area needs. If authorized for online work, employees will need to provide their own workspace and internet access, noting the College will provide technical equipment and support for online work needs.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT/SALARY:
This position is allocated to pay range 42, under the Washington State Office of Financial Management higher education salary schedule. Salary placement for new employees is determined by the College. This position works 40 hours per week, with schedule dependent upon department needs. Hiring of this position is contingent on available funding as determined by the College President.
