Job Description:
The Tutoring Coordinator reports to the Associate Dean of Instruction and Learning for the Learning Commons. The Learning Commons provides academic support to students that promotes deep engagement with learning materials and fosters an appreciation for curiosity, exploration, and growth. The Learning Commons includes a variety of academic support services (Ritz Library, Math & Science Center, Writing Center, Office of Accommodative Services, Testing Services, and CSTEP).

This position will develop, in collaboration with faculty and staff, workshops and interactive student experiences to promote the development of skills that contribute to student success (goal setting, learning strategies, time management, organization, self-direction, anxiety reduction, notetaking, digital literacy, etc.). The Tutoring Coordinator will also hire, supervise, and train peer and professional tutors. Tutoring and workshops are provided at all physical locations (Poughkeepsie, DCC@Fishkill, DCC@HVR, and DCC@FPC) and remotely.


Duties and Responsibilities:

The duties and responsibilities of this position include:

Coordinate tutoring appointment requests (remote and in-person) and refer requests to the Math & Science Center, the Writing Center, and online tutoring as needed.
Manage, and effectively use, appointment systems, statistics tracking systems, and other technology used in the course of work at DCC (Banner, Kronos, TutorTrac, Bookings, Starfish, etc.).
Hire, train, and supervise peer and professional tutors for subjects not covered by the Writing Center and the Math & Science Center, including, but not limited to, history, psychology, government, speech, languages, and English as a second language.
Create workshops and programming activities related to study skills, notetaking, digital literacy, and other topics that contribute to student success.
Collaborate with Academic Departments, the Math & Science Center, the Office of Accommodative Services, the Writing Center, and other offices on campus to provide learning support to students, including supplemental instruction.
Serve as the liaison to online tutoring systems used to supplement remote and in-person tutoring offered by DCC.
Provide individual and group tutoring as needed.
Promote student engagement with learning materials to foster deep learning.
Assist with collection of data specific to Perkins Grant reporting.
Become knowledgeable about, and adhere to, institutional policies, procedures, and requirements.
Demonstrate exceptional interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
Seek professional development opportunities related to tutoring, student success, student engagement, best practices for academic support, etc.
Recognize and respect students' diverse backgrounds.
Maintain consistent tutoring practices and build relationships with students.
Participate in prospective student and first year programs including orientation, introductory seminar courses, and recruitment initiatives.
Participate in campus governance.
Additional duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Bachelor's Degree, in a field of study that enhances the individual's ability to provide academic support.
Excellent technology skills.
Previous experience providing tutoring or the delivery of instruction.
Ability to teach learning strategies to students.
Ability to provide individual and group tutoring sessions.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Concern for student needs in a demanding academic context as well as flexibility, patience, and professional integrity.
Knowledge, experience, and ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff, and student body.
Flexible schedule; ability to occasionally work evenings and weekends as needed.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's Degree, preferably in higher education or a field of study that enhances the individual's ability to assist students.
Supervisory experience.
Previous experience coordinating tutoring services.
Experience as a reading specialist.
Experience with college teaching.
At least two years of related experience in a college setting, specifically in the delivery of academic support services, tutoring, or instruction.
Experience working with ESL students.
Experience working with students to develop their reading comprehension skills.

Additional Information:

Administrative positions are covered by a collective bargaining agreement between Dutchess Community College and Dutchess United Educators (DUE)

The annual salary for this position is $55,717.00 - 63,465.00.
