Coordinator of Commuter Life

Penn State Behrend is seeking a dynamic, high energy professional to serve as the Coordinator of Commuter Life. The Coordinator of Commuter Life will report to the Director of Student Leadership & Involvement and is responsible for engaging commuter students in a comprehensive student activities program.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Providing support and programming for commuter students that would include workshops, presentations and social programming geared toward commuters and their needs to foster student success.
  • Building a community amongst the commuters.
  • Working with the various subgroups of the commuter population with a special focus on first-year commuter students.
  • Conducting needs assessment of the various subgroups of commuter students.
  • Assisting with the Student Engagement App.
  • Managing the commuter lounge space.
  • Communicating other campus opportunities that would be beneficial to commuter students utilizing social media, email, and other methods of advertising.
  • Hiring and supervision of student commuter assistants.


The selected candidate will promote an environment that provides meaningful opportunities for student learning, development, and engagement; develop and continuously improve programs and services in response to the changing needs of students served and evolving institutional priorities; collaborate with colleagues and departments across the institution; communicate effectively in writing, speaking, and electronic venues; model ethical behavior and institutional citizenship; and avoid situations or actions that may pose conflicts of interest or create the appearance of preferential treatment.

TYPICAL EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

This position typically requires a master's degree or higher, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience preferably in college student personnel services or a related discipline.

This position may require that you operate a motor vehicle as part of your job duties. A valid driver's license will be required in addition to standard background checks. Willingness and ability to work flexible hours to support night and weekend activities is required.
