JOB SUMMARY

Under direction of the Associate Director of Career Engagement and in collaboration with the Career Engagement Team, the Career Engagement Specialist is responsible for advancing a career-engaged campus ecosystem by implementing programs, systems, and initiatives designed to teach students the life-long continuous process of personal and career development and foster meaningful connections with industry and alumni in business and entrepreneurship. The Career Engagement Specialist serves as a direct liaison to students, administrators, faculty, and staff and collaboratively enhances relationships with companies, organizations, and alumni. This role empowers students to use their agency to make educated decisions as they reflect on their talents and explore the ever-changing landscape of careers through innovation and strategic connections. This position is the result of a joint venture between UCSC Career Success and the UCSC Silicon Valley Extension. The Career Engagement Specialist will be located at the UCSC Silicon Valley Extension but will be part of the Career Success team.

Salary Information: Salary Range: $55,100 - $70,000 / Annually . Salary commensurate with skills, qualifications and experience.

JOB DUTIES

30% - Campus and Industry Relationship Development
  • Develop new and deepen existing collaborative relationships with administrators, faculty, and staff in Silicon Valley Extension and identified university partners working in the realm of business and entrepreneurship.
  • Actively seek approaches to expand and meaningfully scale Career Success' reach across campus to activate a career-engaged campus culture integrated throughout the entire student lifecycle.
  • Facilitate planning within Silicon Valley Extension and identify opportunities for collaborative programming with identified university partners.
  • Share best practices with campus constituents in Silicon Valley Extension having career success conversations with students.
  • Track and maintain records on engagement initiatives.
  • In collaboration with the Career Success team and under direction of the Associate Director of Career Engagement, develop and implement an annual strategic plan to support industry engagement increasing employer participation within programs and recruiting efforts; expand employment and experiential learning opportunities such as internships and co-ops via coordinated outreach efforts for both UCSC and Silicon Valley Extension students.
  • Enhance relationships with alumni and key organizations in the business and entrepreneurship field in collaboration with internal colleagues and identified university partners to expand engagement opportunities, professional networks, and mentoring of students.

30% - Program Implementation and Industry Engagement
  • Monitor student interests and engagement patterns, as well as workplace and industry trends in order to guide strategic planning and programmatic initiative with a lens for diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Collaboratively develop and deliver a portfolio of programs and initiatives designed to help students discover and prepare for career pathways in business and entrepreneurship, articulate their career ready and transferable skills, and build community that propels their career aspirations.
  • Implement educational opportunities, networking events, industry panels, boutique recruiting forums, industry treks, and other programming initiatives through collaboration with alumni and other business and entrepreneurship leaders.
  • Utilize and implement technology systems, programs and resources that enhance and accelerate the networking and connections process for employers, alumni, and students.
  • Collect and analyze participation and engagement data of programs in order to assure quality and improve student engagement, preparing quarterly and annual reports as requested.
  • Recommend initiatives and implement changes to improve quality and achieve learning outcomes.

25% - Student Engagement
  • Advance the quality, and inclusive and equitable practice of career coaching by researching and facilitating training for the career engagement team.
  • Conduct career coaching for students at UCSC Silicon Valley Extension through workshops and other experiences in ways that are engaging, culturally conscious, and effective.
  • Leverage industry insights to provide experiences, trainings and appointments including administration and interpretation of career assessment inventories. 
  • Connect students at UCSC Silicon Valley Extension to resources, industry, alumni, and experiential learning opportunities. 
  • Delivers experiences, trainings, workshops and events for students at UCSC Silicon Valley Extension on foundational and advanced career success topics.
  • Collect and analyze outcomes data in order to assure quality and improve student engagement, preparing quarterly and annual reports as requested and as helpful for identified university partners.

10% - E-Learning Design and Content Creation
  • Researches, evaluates, updates and develops e-learning content (tutorials, asynchronous Canvas modules, worksheets/guides, blended learning toolkits, audio and video content, website/blog text, case studies, etc.) which transform career success topics into engaging instruction.
  • Catalog and maintain updated content and e-learning resources.
  • Be the voice of the learner, ensuring that their needs are at the forefront of our content efforts and help our team iterate and improve on our content offerings.

5% - Continuous Benchmarking and University Representation
  • Ensure continuous enhancements through local, regional, and national benchmarking with career coaching peers and industry networks. 
  • Update position-related skills by participating in appropriate professional development offerings throughout the year. 
  • Represent UCSC Career Success and Silicon Valley Extension through active involvement and leadership in regional and national associations.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Thorough knowledge of needs assessment theory, processes, and practice; workshop and program design.
  • Ability to design and modify computer applications to meet program needs, problem identification, presentation skills, verbal communication, written communication, and organization skills.
  • Ability to work with people from diverse cultures.
  • Experience in career services, development, recruiting, sales, business and entrepreneurship or related field.
  • Effective time management, administrative, technical and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Demonstrates strong problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to build new and enhance existing relationships with constituents inside and outside of an organization.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Advanced degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Strong knowledge of career development theories, adult development theory, counseling process, career coaching techniques, career decision making, learning styles, and job search techniques.
  • Knowledge of UC programs, career services, employer, alumni, and faculty needs and expectations, recruiting and staffing methods, and employment trends.
