The BCSC is proud to be part of The Centers for Equity, Community, and Leadership, within the division of Student Affairs. The Centers consist of the Asian American Activities Center, Black Community Services Center, El Centro Chicano y Latino, Markaz Community Resources Center, Native American Cultural Center, Queer Student Resources Center, and Women's Community Center. Each Center works to advance learning and student development through five pillars - Academic and Intellectual Engagement, Leadership Development, Mental Health & Well-Being, Community Building, and Alumni Engagement.

JOB PURPOSE:

The role serves as a campus partner and advocate within all functional areas of the university, including faculty, senior administrators, academic departments, administrative offices, staff, and alumni.

Project Pipeline initiatives in the Black Community Services Center, include the Ernest Houston Johnson Scholars Program and the Black Recruitment and Outreach Committee. This role works between and among university offices and departments with particular attention to advocating for Black undergraduate and graduate students and other marginalized communities on campus. We are interested in candidates who have demonstrated experience engaging with diversity through activities such as fostering an inclusive environment, working with students and staff from diverse backgrounds, and/or incorporating diverse perspectives in their work.

Ernest Houston Johnson Scholars (EHJS) Program

Formerly known as Partners for Academic Excellence, EHJS is a three-quarter program and course for Black frosh focused on building a community of scholars by introducing them to the concept of research and career exploration. This program administered by the Black Community Services Center, honors Ernest Houston Johnson, the first Black graduate of Stanford University in the pioneer class of 1891. Each academic year 60+ new frosh make up the cohort of scholars participating in the program and course. This program and 3 quarter course create a pipeline for undergraduate and graduate students to pursue advanced degrees, research opportunities and to explore diverse career fields.

Black Recruitment and Outreach Committee (BROC)

(BROC) consists of a team of undergraduate students who work alongside the Black Community Services Center to welcome the new class of Black students to Stanford through a series of programs during Admit Weekend and New Student Orientation as well as a Big Sib/Lil Sib mentoring program throughout the academic year. Established in 1976 as the first community orientation committee, BROC was formed with the aim of recruiting and attracting more Black students to attend Stanford, all while fostering an inclusive, tight-knit Black community. BROC serves as a pipeline program for undergraduate students to create connection points to the larger Black community and a pipeline to other leadership roles at Stanford.
