Position Description

Seattle University has an exciting and dynamic opportunity for an Associate Director of Career Education to join our community. The Division of Academic Affairs and the Career Engagement Office at Seattle University are seeking a culturally conscious visionary leader to operationalize career education at Seattle University. This work centers on the University's strategic directions that expand the reach of career readiness throughout the student experience.

The Associate Director of Career Education will lead and develop identity-centered, multidisciplinary, all-sector professional formation programs. They will interface with students, academic departments, campus partners, employers, alumni, student clubs, and support networks to champion a comprehensive career education strategy.

This position reports to the Director of Career Engagement and oversees a team Career Education staff colleagues and student employees.

The successful candidate for this position will demonstrate a commitment to the mission of Seattle University, social justice, equity, inclusion, and anti-racist practices.

Responsibilities:

Career Education Program Development, Assessment, and Evaluation (45%)

Champion professional formation serving as university-wide strategist in fulfilling objectives outlined in the Seattle U's strategic plan related to career education.
Create and deliver high impact career education programming to support students' career readiness and skill development, and to advance students' success in post-graduation outcomes.
Provide leadership in developing, creating, and implementing identity-centered programs, resources, and services to ensure equitable access to career education for all students.
Lead collaboration with campus partners to integrate career competencies into the wider student experience and to foster a campus culture that uses the career competencies to articulate the strengths of a Seattle University education.
Facilitate the maintenance, and revisions of the SU career competencies by leading working meetings, creating systems for feedback from campus community, and leading creation of language and resources for the campus.
Collaborate with Center for Faculty Development to increase faculty ability to support students' professional formation by sharing tools and best practices for in-classroom career education.
Collect and analyze qualitative and quantitative data relevant to the objectives and performance of career education programs, services and resources to evaluate their effectiveness, and make recommendations for improvement and innovation.

Career Coaching (30%)

Create and deliver an inclusive career coaching framework to support students and recent alumni in their career exploration, discovery, discernment, and experiential learning experiences.
Assist students with understanding their transferable skills to explore and expand their post-graduation career paths.
Provide one-on-one career coaching, workshops, presentation, and career education content to undergraduates, graduate students, and recent alumni.
Provide campus-wide leadership within the career coaching and career competency space, including leading discussions on innovation and trends to help the University prepare for and change with advancements in the field.
Encourage and assist students, faculty, staff, and employers with use of departmental career technologies (Handshake, Cappfinity VEE, Redhawk Landing, etc.) and troubleshoot as needed.
Coordinate and manage evaluation, assessment, and reporting practices related to career coaching.

Teams (15%)

Provide strategic leadership, supervision, and professional development for the Career Education team.
Design appropriate performance standards that allow opportunities for success and advancement for team members.
Oversee all career education components for department including operations and corresponding policies, internal and external communications, staffing, and workflow.
Assist in planning and provide day-of event assistance at department-wide events.
Actively participate in and/or assist in the coordination or facilitation of staff meetings and training sessions.
Participate in professional development opportunities as a group and self-identified opportunities as part of a professional development plan throughout the year.

Operations (10%)

Collaborate with Director in oversight of strategic planning, assessment, evaluation, internal processes, reporting, and overall department direction and office management.
Engage in Career Engagement's commitment to being anti-racist by engaging in individual and collective learning, strategizing, and behavior change, and embedding racial equity into practices.
Collaborate with external relations team to plan and execute campus-wide marketing of career education programs and services as appropriate.
Support departmental initiatives, as prioritized by overall Career Engagement Office goals.
Support the office/department/university by serving on committees and task forces as appropriate.
Represent Seattle University's Career Engagement Office through involvement in professional regional and national associations.
Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Holds a bachelor's degree in relevant field; Master-level degree preferred.
A minimum of two years' previous experience in designing and implementing an educational program or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the role.
A strong relationship builder with multicultural competency and demonstrated ability in fostering an inclusive climate for students, staff and faculty.
Be committed to engage students across their lifecycle at Seattle University, embracing non-linear career paths.

Highly desired

Knowledge and experience in career development theory, employment trends, community cultural wealth and professional resources available to assist in career planning, including job search.
Familiarity with best practices, current trends/issues in career development and higher education.
Familiarity with professional ethics and standards as noted by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE).
An understanding of and appreciation for student development and services in a Jesuit institution of higher education.
