RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Leads the mission-driven residential life office and program at Fordham University's largest undergraduate campus, housing 3,500 students in 13 on-campus residence halls, 4 leased off-campus apartment areas, including 7 integrated learning communities.

  • Leads a diverse department of approximately 120 staff: 2 associate directors, 2 assistant directors, 1 substance abuse prevention specialist, 12 full-time resident directors, a budget coordinator, an administrative assistant, an executive secretary, 97 resident assistants, 8 summer housing staff, 4 graduate managers and assistants, approximately 50 desk assistants and 10 student workers.

  • Serves as Assistant Dean of Students for Rose Hill, second to the Dean of Students/Assistant Vice President in both the student conduct and mental health intervention/response and management areas, managing and hearing high-level conduct cases, overseeing the department's day-to-day activities in these critical area sand in the monitoring of conduct (including sexual misconduct and bias/hate crime incidents) and serious mental health-related cases, related databases, and response to high-level incidents.

  • Oversees the direct management of the campus student conduct/intervention areas with the department's associate director for student conduct and the associate director for substance abuse prevention and mental health and the resident director on-call/hearing officers, developing, communicating, enforcing, assessing, and reporting on conduct policy and related processes.

  • Oversees critical housing occupancy business operation at Rose Hill, working closely with the housing operations staff, managing a critical ($40 million plus) revenue-generating housing program focused on quality of life and retention through detailed occupancy and revenue tracking and projections, the online housing room selection system, the room assignment and selection processes, semesterly openings and student move-ins, closings and student move-outs, coordination with conference services and with the facilities operations.

  • Guides mission-focused recruiting and hiring as well as the development, annual improvement, implementation, and assessment of a mission-based professional and undergraduate staff training program reflecting institutional, divisional, and department visions and missions, Jesuit tenets and Ignatian pedagogy, ethical leadership, professional integrity, relevant job skills, and the values that Fordham holds dear, critical among them the training of men and women for others through a diverse and inclusive community of rights, respect, and responsibility.

  • Collaboratively plans, designs, implements, supervises, and assesses hall programming with the Assistant Director for Leadership Development and Training, including collaborative integrated learning communities and focused diversity and inclusion programming. Assists the AVP/Dean of Students and leads residential life in strategic planning for the future of the campus living/learning environment, acts as a key participant in unit and divisional strategic planning and implementation of strategic plans.

  • Manages the operating, strategic and conduct fines budgets including detailed housing occupancy revenue projections.

  • Develops and maintains critical process documentation, including crisis-intervention response protocols and key business process guidance documents and checklists, mitigating the effects of transition, and assuring continuity of service in multiple critical areas.

  • Guides the development and publication of all departmental publications and assists the AVP/Dean of Students with periodic policy revision and development.

  • Collaborates and coordinates closely with key divisional and University offices, including the Office for Student Involvement, the Department of Public Safety, Office for Multicultural Affairs, and many others to develop coordinated and consistent programs and policies, publications, services, and processes.

  • Serves as a key member of Rose Hill's Student Life team of department heads led by the AVP/Dean of Students, collaborating and coordinating with colleagues on planning and campus and university events such as opening and move-in, Orientation, various campus alumni events, commencement, concerts, senior week, spring weekend and other large-scale events.

  • Serves as Rose Hill Student Life or divisional representative on various campus, divisional and institution-wide committees and activities including admissions yield and recruiting events.




QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Post-baccalaureate degree required.

  • Minimum six years' proven mission-driven leadership and experience in progressively responsible positions in student affairs.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, attention to business detail, and familiarity with information technology.

  • Professional poise and judgment in crisis situations, strong interpersonal skill, and good instinct for collaborative work with colleagues.

  • Successful candidates should have a knowledge of and commitment to the goals of Jesuit Education.
