About the Position:
The purpose of the Division of Student Affairs is to transform the lives of our students academically, personally and professionally, equipping all with the knowledge and skills required for success at Cal State Fullerton and beyond degree completion. We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our team as the Assistant Director of Assessment and Student Development (Student Services Professional IV-Range A). The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

Reporting to the Chief of Operations for Student Affairs, the Assistant Director of Assessment and Student Development will perform highly complex work in reviewing group and/or organizational problems, developing and recommending courses of action, and implementing proposed solutions associated with assessment, student programs, and other assigned special projects. Incumbent will coordinate the division assessment efforts, Student Fee programs, Panetta Congressional Internship Program, NASPA Undergraduate Fellows Program (NUFP), and the HACU Ambassador Program which are all aimed at ensuring student success, integrating students into campus life, and addressing the holistic development of all CSUF students. The Assistant Director of Assessment and Student Development will guide staff and students through processes and experiences, assisting with problem solving and finding solutions that support student success, providing appropriate support when needed. Provides guidance to campus community and division on topics related to assessment, student fees, and special programs. Other duties as assigned.


Essential Qualifications:
Bachelors degree or the equivalent from an accredited four-year college or university in a related field plus upper division or graduate course work in counseling techniques, interviewing, and conflict resolution. Four years of professional student services work experience including experience advising students individually and in groups, as well as the analysis and resolution of complex student services problems. A masters degree from an accredited college or university in counseling, clinical psychology, social work or a job related field may be substituted for one year of professional experience. A doctoral degree from an accredited college or university and the appropriate internship or clinical training in a relevant field may be substituted for two years of professional experience.

General knowledge of the problems and methods of public administration, including organizational, personnel, and fiscal management. Knowledge of advanced statistical and research methods. Ability to plan, develop, coordinate, supervise, and organize programs and activities. Ability to interact with a diverse student population, faculty, staff, and the public. Ability to analyze complex situations accurately and adopt effective courses of action. Ability to advise students individually and in groups on complex student-related matters. Ability to complete assignments without detailed instructions. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a variety of individuals. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as the ability to acquire knowledge of campus procedures, activities and of the overall organization.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.


Preferred Qualifications:
Strong written skills, oral communication skills, and proofreading skills. The ability to work independently and with minimal supervision at times. Experience with advising students which includes knowledge of leadership and organizational development principles and theories. Excellent critical thinking skills, analytical skills, and attention to detail. Thorough knowledge of the policies, procedures and practices of the program area to which assigned or the ability to quickly acquire such knowledge. General knowledge of the policies, practices and activities of Student Affairs programs outside the program to which immediately assigned. Knowledge of Student Fee policies and employment policies and procedures. Research experience related to student affairs and student development. Knowledge of co-curricular student learning and performance assessment.

Experience managing large scale assessment efforts, including the development and implementation of assessment
